R&B's Queen

 by Jami Morain

New York Times dubbed her as "one of her generation's greatest R&B voices," Rock Hall states her "accomplishments in music are unparalleled," the Grammys celebrate her "groundbreaking legacy," and she has an entire episode of Glee dedicated to her. She is the queen of rhythm and blues music, she is Whitney Houston.

Rock Hall said she has won so many awards that even Guinness World Records gave a nod in her direction. The Hall credits the numerous recognitions to her ability to connect to her audience.

"She was the first artist to have seven consecutive #1 hits and the first woman to enter the Billboard 200 at #1 with her album, Whitney," her Rock Hall induction reads. "She earned the longest reigning #1 single on the Hot 100 with “I Will Always Love You.”

The Grammys speak highly of Houston saying she is "undoubtedly one of music's biggest superstars." The article also says Adele, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys and more, give Houston credit for her impact on the music industry.

"Without her contributions to the reshaping and hybridization of modern popular music, contemporary Black pop singers — from Janet Jackson to Lizzo to Normani — may have continued to be placed in boxes based on their race and not their music," the article reads.

She also tried her hand in acting, which helped her record sales. The Preacher's Wife and The Bodyguard are her most memorable on-screen moments.

Houston's career wasn't all that glamorous, as she publicly had a toxic relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown. The marriage was full of affairs, drugs, and abuse. The couple stayed together for 14 years until calling it quits in 20007.

Whitney "The Voice" Houston grew up with music, winner of numerous awards from her movies and music, most iconic National Anthem performance and an inspiration to many.
